Abstract
The paper highlights the characteristics of contemporary scientific discourse that reveals the actual multidimensional problematic and thematic fields of students’ language and communicative proficiency in higher medical educational institutions. The characteristics of linguists’ research interests who instruct aspiring medical professionals are examined. It should be mentioned that a variety of methodologies, such as press clipping, bibliographic, descriptive, analytic, and synthesis, were employed in the study in order to gather fresh scientific data on the subjects of contemporary research that were all connected by the idea of «linguistic and communicative competence». The formation of future specialists’ linguistic and communicative skills, the effectiveness of linguistic and communicative competence, the culture of professional communication, the specifics of communication between medical professionals and patients, the linguistic and communicative tactics of specialists, and the development of a successful linguistic personality of a future medical specialist are identified in the paper as the main problematic and thematic aspects of the contemporary scientific discourse on this issue that are studied by linguists. It is stressed that the demands and difficulties facing today’s medical professionals call for reforming the educational system in order to create new and more societally acceptable models for developing the language and communication skills of aspiring medical professionals. It has been demonstrated that linguists’ contemporary scientific discourse encompasses a wide range of topics and advances the crucial field of studying Ukrainian for work-related reasons. It is observed that by analyzing this scientific debate, we are able to highlight complicated issues that need immediate attention and improvements to the educational system. It is stressed that the findings can serve as the foundation for useful suggestions made by linguists to close knowledge gaps in the area of enhancing medical students’ language and communication skills.
