Abstract

Ukrainian folk songs are the soul of our people. It reveals our character, traditions, and mentality. Ukraine is now on the lips of the whole world, and Ukrainian songs are becoming a popular and fashionable trend. So, the goal of Ukrainians is to popularize Ukrainian culture, especially the song, which will be sung all over the world. It is now so important to translate Ukrainian folk songs into English so that English-speaking countries that support us can feel our spirit of indomitability, but at the same time the beauty, humor and elegance of the Ukrainian soul. The large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine united the democratic world. Among the countries that have extended a helping hand and supported our struggle since the first days of the great war were the English-speaking countries – the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and others. Interest in Ukraine, its language, history, and culture has increased. The author of this study, together with Ukrainian and foreign students of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, held competitions in translating Ukrainian folk songs into English during English classes, electives, and extracurricular activities. The author of this article had the honor of listening to the lectures of the outstanding researcher, teacher, and teacher Stanislav Rosovetsky about the importance of Ukrainian folklore. The multifaceted scientific work of the scholar includes an appeal to precise methods in the study of folklore. The material of our study is the Ukrainian folk song "Nese Halya vodu" and its English translation "Halya carries water". This song is such a great example of where the intrigues of the characters' personal lives intersect, as well as the pride and wisdom of the characters. The study was conducted using experimental phonetic methods on a computer, where speech continua were segmented, a database of dynamic computer oscillograms and spectrograms were created, and audiovisual and parametric speech indicators were synchronized. Our experiment has established that the rhythmic organization of the Ukrainian folk song and its English translation is based on basic rhythms: strophic, verse, rhyming, rhyme and sound.
